NYC is hands down one of my favorite places for engagement portraits! The natural cinematic energy of the city provides the perfect backdrop to any love story. It made an especially fitting location for Meghan and Rachel’s engagement session. Meghan and Rachel share many things—a passion for theater, the same profession, and a love for all things romantic. They also happen to be dear friends of mine, and watching their love story unfold over the past couple of years has been a joy and privilege to say the least.

“When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”

One of the things that makes NYC such a perfect location for Meghan & Rachel’s engagement photos is the setting of the film When Harry Met Sally. It’s the first movie that they ever watched together and features a plot that they later acted out by becoming friends and falling in love.

(It also happens to be my favorite movie of all time, so I’m biased when it comes to how perfect this whole thing is).

Classic NYC

When selecting locations for their session, we wanted to have a mix of quintessential New York, while also highlighting the things that they loved as a couple. Both being teachers, their love for literature was a must. I simply had to add the Bethesda Terrance and Bow Bridge to the list—it’s such a storybook part of the city and provides such a dreamy backdrop that I’ll truly never tire of, no matter how many times I see it.

The brownstone steps came to mind, as they not only scream NYC, but they also remind me of Harry and Sally’s little spat outside of Marie and Jess’s new apartment.

One of my favorite vocal stims will always be: “Six years later you find yourself singing “Surrey with a fringe on top” in front of Ira!”

Human Connection

Finally, I let the magic of the NYC streets and Meghan and Rachel’s exuberant chemistry do the talking. It was so sweet how many people stopped us on the street and congratulated the happy couple, and told them how beautiful they both looked. In a world where everything feels increasingly more dire and we feel more and more divided and disconnected, having these moments of human connection are everything.
